Opening day festivities have begun throughout the league. Fans of the Florida Gators were eager to watch Anthony Scott square off against Steve Gould of the visiting South Illinois Salukis. In the end, the Salukis won the game, 5-0, with Steve Gould earning player of the game honors. The winning pitcher was Gould, now 1-0. He tossed 6 innings of 3-hit ball, while walking 3 and fanning 7.
Mark Foley was a key contributor to the win for the Salukis. In the top of the eighth with one out, the light-hitting second baseman stroked a double to right. He went 1 for 1 with a double, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once.
"It was a solid team effort," said Foley after the game.
