Cavaliers Hope Opening Day Win Bodes Well for Season
|
The Virginia Cavaliers got their 2028 season off and running with a win over the Clemson Tigers at Ballpark of Redwood College. The final score was 4-3. Virginia second baseman Brandon Benedict was named player of the game.
Had Kevin Slaughter not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, Slaughter hit a run-scoring double. That made the score 4-3, in favor of the Cavaliers.
"Enjoyed this one," Slaughter told the Virginia Observer. "But it's back to work tomorrow."
