Mustangs Suffer 8-5 Setback
San Angelo pitcher Ichiro Hashimoto gave the Gnats all they could handle, but in the end, Nichols left Heartland Kettlecorn Stadium with a 8-5 win. Hashimoto allowed 3 earned runs on 4 hits over 6 innings. Nichols reliever Valentim Carrapa picked up the win, upping his record to 6-8. Todd Mullins shouldered the loss. The Gnats move to 36-79 with the win, while the Mustangs drop to 68-46.

The Nichols win was a team effort. It included major contributions from, among others, Rafael Ortíz. In the top of the seventh, the Nichols first baseman came to bat and hit a bases-clearing double. It staked his team to a 7-4 lead.

"The most important thing is that we won," Ortíz said.
