Nichols starter Jorge Salazar put a stranglehold on the New Orleans offense. The left-hander had complete command of his cutter in leading the Gnats to a 4-1 win. Salazar got the win, improving to 2-11. He allowed 7 hits and walked 0 over 7.2 innings. Salazar allowed 1 earned run. Katsuyuki Noguchi earned his 3rd save in 3 tries.

In the top of the sixth inning of a 1-1 tie, Nichols first baseman Lúcio Martínez hit a 2-run single. It broke the deadlock and put Nichols on top, 3-1.

"I had pretty good command out there," said Salazar.
