River Chiefs Reel Off Another Win
|
Despite a fine performance by left fielder Tsunayoshi Ono, the Winfield Warriors suffered a 6-5 loss to the Chippewa River Chiefs. Ono was 3 for 3 with 2 doubles and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. George Fortin Jr. finished to wrap up his 20th save. The first-place River Chiefs have a one-game lead in their division.
The River Chiefs beat the Warriors in part due to timely hitting. Case in point: the two-out single Woodrow Buchanan produced in the bottom of the fifth. Batting against Winfield pitcher Naganori Sakaguchi, Buchanan gave his team a 6-5 lead when he hit a run-scoring single.
"It wasn't our best performance," said Buchanan, "but a win in this league is nothing to sniff at."
