Victoria starter Juan Cruz put a stranglehold on the Winfield offense. The right-hander had complete command of his slider in leading the Vikings to a 3-1 win. Cruz, now 6-5, was the winner. In 6 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 3, walking 0, and allowing 1 earned run. The Vikings saw their win-loss record go to 39-46. At the same time, the Warriors fell to 49-36.
Tied up with the Warriors in the top of the fourth, the Vikings got a boost from right fielder Kyung-jin Yun. With a runner on 1st, Yun saw a first pitch changeup from Alejandro Zorros and hit a 2-run home run to break the stalemate and put Victoria on top, 3-1.
"Getting ahead of the hitters was the key," said Cruz.
