The bats were silent much of the day at Prefontaine Park. But Gerd Zabel conjured up just enough offense to carry the Emeralds past the Boise Bloodhounds, 3-1. Zabel went 2 for 4 with 2 home runs. Eugene reliever Javier Ballina was the winner. His record is now 9-5. Albert Franchi took the loss. The save went to James Woodard, his 19th this season.
Philippe Vincent recorded a big out in the top of the eighth. Boise was trailing 2-1. With two out and runners on 1st and 2nd, Vincent retired Jim Luckwell when Luckwell struck out.
The 4th-place Emeralds now have a win-loss record of 44-35.
