New Orleans got a terrific performance from pitcher Felipe Pérez, but it wasn't enough to beat the Coney Island Cyclones. Coney Island won the Coney Island Coliseum contest, 5-3. Pérez was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He threw 6 innings allowing 1 run. Coney Island reliever Iwane Kaneko picked up the win to move to 1-0. Yoshikazu Ichihara suffered the loss. Coney Island is 5th in the Buck O'Neil League Mariner Moose Division with a record of 32-47.

Billy Joel was the walk-off hero for Coney Island. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth, the Coney Island third baseman hit a dramatic 2-run home run to send the teams home.

"I'm glad I could get it done when the game was in the balance," Joel said in his postgame press conference.
