Cyclones Fall to Frosties, 7-0
|
The Barrow Frosties picked up a win at The Blizzard Bowl, knocking off the Coney Island Cyclones, 7-0. Starting pitcher Lorenzo Espinoza played a key role in the triumph. Espinoza, now 2-0, was the winner. In 6.2 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 8, walking 1, and allowing no earned runs. Cecilio Friuli finished to wrap up his 2nd save.
The Frosties beat the Cyclones in part due to timely hitting. Case in point: the two-out home run Nick Gómez produced in the bottom of the fifth. Batting against Coney Island pitcher Sadahige Samurakami, Gómez gave his team a 1-0 lead when he hit a solo home run.
"It was a tough night at the plate," said Coney Island manager Tony Chávez.
Barrow is now 43-34, while Coney Island is 30-47.
