Panthers Defeat Gnats, 5-2
|
The Charleston Panthers topped the Nichols Gnats, 5-2, with youngster Roy Klein playing a key role. Klein went 3-4 with a triple, 2 singles, and a walk, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2 for the Panthers in the win. Steve Becker, who went 5.1 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 2 runs on 5 hits, while walking 1 and striking out 8. His record now stands at 2-1. Vincent Casanova was called on to finish, recording his 1st save.
The game turned with two out in the bottom of the fourth when Klein, who is tied for 5th in the BOL in stolen bases with 18, hit a run-scoring single. It propelled the Panthers into the lead, 3-2.
"It was just a matter of executing," said Charleston manager Todd Hall.
Charleston is now riding a 3-game win streak.
