Gnats Take Close Win Over Bloodhounds
|
Boise got a terrific performance from pitcher Albert Franchi, but it wasn't enough to beat the Nichols Gnats. Nichols won the The Pond contest, 4-2. Franchi was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He threw 5 innings of shutout ball. Yoichibei Matsubara earned the save for Nichols, his 2nd of the year. The Gnats improved to 26-45.
Nichols took a 4-1 lead in the bottom of the eighth inning. With two out, left fielder Kyoichi Ohayashi hit a 3-run home run that set the crowd abuzz.
Ohayashi said afterward that he was glad to help his team win.
