San Angelo beat Winfield at The Barn, eking out a 5-4 win. The win was due in large part to pitcher Clay Melsom, who earned player of the game honors. Luis Domínguez closed the game out for San Angelo, earning his 11th save. The second-place Mustangs raised their record to 43-27.
Dan Brown didn't waste any time giving his team the lead. His first time up in the top of the first, he cranked a run-scoring triple to put San Angelo on top, 1-0.
"It takes a lot of things to win a ballgame," said San Angelo manager Dave Callahan. "It's usually not just one thing."
