Loss to River Chiefs Extends Kingwood Losing Streak
Despite a fine performance by right fielder Johnny Dougherty, the Kingwood Knights suffered a 5-4 loss to the Chippewa River Chiefs. Dougherty was 3 for 3 with 3 singles. Chippewa reliever Ben Crabb picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Kagera Sokoine absorbed the loss. The save was credited to George Fortin Jr., his 12th.

Had Atsushi Sugita not delivered a key base hit in the top of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Sugita hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 5-4, in favor of the River Chiefs.

"We've hit a rough patch right now," said Kingwood skipper Rodger Raymond.

The slumping Knights have lost 6 straight.
