Victoria right-hander Jeff Duff shut out the Kingwood Knights, 7-0. Duff, the winner, moves to 3-3. He threw 6 innings of 3-hit ball, while fanning 7 and giving up 2 walks. Victoria now sits at 23-32, while Kingwood falls to 16-39.
A key at-bat in the game came in the top of the fourth inning when the Vikings sent teenager Pedro Moreno to the plate against Knights hurler Jules Jacquemin. With the bases loaded and a whole stadium watching, the kid controlled his nerves and delivered huge, hitting a home run off a 1-1 fastball to score 4.
"I'm a bit of a clubhouse prankster," said Moreno. "But it's all business when we're on the field."
