The Winfield Warriors defeated the Nichols Gnats, 9-3, in Buck O'Neil League action at The Barn, with Winfield pitcher Pang Ji named player of the game. Nichols is in the throes of a 9-game skid.

Katsuhiko Shimizu was one of the major contributors to the win for Winfield. The light-hitting second baseman stroked a single to center in the bottom of the sixth inning. For the day, he was 2-3 with a triple and was hit by a pitch, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once.

"This losing is getting old," said Nichols manager Stanley Martin.
