Charleston had no answer for Victoria Vikings starter Juan Cruz, who flummoxed Panthers hitters as the Vikings cruised to a 7-1 victory. Cruz, the winner, moves to 4-3. He threw 6.2 innings of 2-hit ball, while fanning 6 and giving up 1 walk. The Vikings now have a record of 16-23.
In the top of the second, with the game tied, the Panthers allowed the Vikings to take a 1-0 lead on a base hit and Charleston error.
"Juan was pounding the zone," said Victoria manager Charles Luce.
