|
The Emeralds grabbed a win, 5-3, at Prefontaine Park, overcoming a fine effort from Coney Island pitcher Naoki Okada. Okada went 6.2 innings and allowed 1 earned run. The winner was Eugene reliever Katsunosuki Suzuki, now 1-0. The loser was Chris Bacon. The loss drops Coney Island to 14-18.
Iván Romo found himself in a pressure situation in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Coney Island hurler Chris Bacon, the 20-year-old right fielder hit a 2-run double. His 2nd double of the season put the Emeralds on top, 4-2.
"It takes a lot of things to win a ballgame," said Eugene manager Tom Becker. "It's usually not just one thing."
