The Eugene Emeralds defeated the Chippewa River Chiefs, 7-6. Earning player of the game honors was catcher Doug Turner, who was 3 for 4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. José Díaz earned the win for Eugene. He lasted 5.1 innings, allowing 3 earned runs on 10 hits, while striking out 5. With the win, he raised his record to 3-0.
Phil Kinch's at-bat in the top of the seventh inning was a big one for Eugene. Coming to bat with one out, a runner on 1st and Eugene leading 5-3, the shortstop hit a run-scoring double.
"We cashed in when we had the chance," said Eugene manager Tom Becker.
Losses have been few and far between for the River Chiefs, who are now 19-8.
