Emeralds Come Back Late to Clip River Chiefs
|
The Chippewa River Chiefs got a sterling performance from pitcher Josuke Fujihara, but the Emeralds still prevailed, 3-1. Fujihara was named the player of the game in a losing cause. He threw 5 innings of 3-hit ball. Andrés Seánez, credited with the win, is now 3-0. He allowed no runs on 1 hit in 3 innings. Losses have been few and far between for the River Chiefs, who are now 19-7.
Phil Kinch's at-bat with no one out in the top of the eighth was critical. The Eugene shortstop hit a sacrifice fly, to put his team on top, 2-1. Runs were at a premium and this one was huge.
"We faced good pitching and still got it done," said Kinch.
