The exploits of designated hitter Albert Rivas helped the Eugene Emeralds defeat the Victoria Vikings, 5-2. Rivas went 2 for 3 with a home run and a walk, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Cai-fei Men picked up the win with 6 innings of work. He allowed 2 earned runs on 5 hits, while walking 1 and striking out 4. On the season, he is now 2-2. James Woodard got the save, the 6th for him this season.
In the bottom of the third with two out, the Emeralds were let down by their defense. With Eugene leading 2-1, Rivas hit a run-scoring single that was misplayed. It could have been more costly, but the Emeralds were able to get the win.
"When this team comes together and plays the way we can, we can compete with anyone," said Rivas. "I think we're going to keep proving that."
The Vikings fall to 10-14 and continue their lackluster start in 2028.
