Vikings Cut Down Emeralds, 4-1
|
Prefontaine Park was the site for Buck O'Neil League action featuring the Eugene Emeralds and Victoria Vikings.
Behind a solid performance from right fielder Reggie Volkmann, the Victoria Vikings defeated the Eugene Emeralds, 4-1. Volkmann was 2-3 with 2 singles and 2 walks for the Vikings. Victoria reliever Toshiharu Sasaki got the win, raising his record to 1-0. Wilson Polk was tagged with the loss. Joe Edwards earned his 3rd save in 6 tries.
It could have been a different outcome for Victoria, had it not been for Tae-kyun Kim, the 20-year old center fielder . Kim contributed a run-scoring walk in the top of the fourth inning to put Victoria up, 3-0.
"I thought we played a nice game," Kim told the Victoria Gazette. "Good pitching, timely hitting, it was all there."
The win takes Victoria to 9-13.
