The Eugene Emeralds knocked off the Nichols Gnats, 4-2, at The Pond. Kiemon Matsunaga, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason Eugene won. The catcher was 3-4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. Eugene reliever Andrés Seánez was credited with the win, to go to 2-0. Valentim Carrapa took the loss for Nichols. Katsunosuki Suzuki locked down his 1st save.

Eugene took control in the top of the seventh. With one out and runners on 2nd and 3rd, José Rodríguez hit a run-scoring single to make it 3-2, Emeralds.

"It takes a lot of things to win a ballgame," said Eugene manager Tom Becker. "It's usually not just one thing."

The Gnats, now 7-14, continue their poor start.
