Kinch, Emeralds Too Much for Gnats
|
In a high-scoring game between Eugene and Nichols, third baseman Phil Kinch was a difference-maker. The 21-year-old earned player of the game honors in the 9-8 Eugene win. He went 3 for 4 with a home run, 2 doubles, and a walk, while scoring 2 times and driving in 4. Eugene reliever Javier Ballina picked up the win, upping his record to 2-2. Valentim Carrapa shouldered the loss. The Gnats, now 7-13, continue their poor start.
Kinch hit a 3-run home run in the top of the sixth to help the Eugene cause. The home run, which was hit off Valentim Carrapa, allowed Eugene to take a 9-6 lead.
"What a game," said Kinch. "We needed every last run."
