Coney Island withstood an impressive performance by Winfield second baseman Katsuhiko Shimizu to defeat the Warriors, 5-3, at Coney Island Coliseum. Shimizu went 3 for 4 with 3 singles. Wilber Matthews picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 2-1. Octávio Pérez was tagged with the loss. Carl Cozens finished to wrap up his 2nd save.
The Cyclones got a big boost from right fielder Lester Cattermole who had a run-scoring walk in the bottom of the fifth inning off Warriors hurler Octávio Pérez. It was his 6th walk of the season and put Coney Island on top, 3-2.
"You win some, you lose some. I don't get too caught up in all that," said Cattermole.
Coney Island is still hoping to get on a roll. The win is just their 7th in 18 games.
