Mejía Propels Nichols to 8-4 Win
|
Old Bay Park was the site of the home opener for the Baltimore Blue Claws. The contest featured a prime matchup between António Mejía of the visiting Nichols Gnats and Manuel Cortéz of the Blue Claws. The final score was 8-4, the Gnats getting the win. Earning player of the game honors was António Mejía.
The standout performance belonged to 18-year-old Mejía. With his baby face, he looked more like someone starting for a high school team than for the Gnats. His performance, however, was nothing short of top-notch. The youngster dominated the Blue Claws, striking out 8 and scattering 1 hit over 6.2 innings. Mejía is now 1-0 on the season.
"We're in a marathon, not a sprint," said Mejía. "But I like how we're playing right now."
