West Virginia right-hander Qing-lai Juan made an effective start against the Whitewater Eagles at The Aerie, leading his team to a 5-2 win. The winning pitcher was Juan, now 5-4. He tossed 5.2 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 1 and fanning 4. Cyprien Bataille nailed down his 17th save.

A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. In the top of the first, with the game tied, Shelby Park was at the plate when West Virginia scored 1 on an error. The miscue enabled the Dancin' Outlaws to go in front, 1-0.

"I don't feel you win baseball games by working harder than the other team or 'wanting it more,'" Juan told the West Virginia Today. "You win just by scoring more runs."

With the win, West Virginia has a record of 91-68. Whitewater falls to 84-75.
