The Palm Beach Bums racked up a win at Silvery Lane Field, bumping off the Beach City Seals, 4-3. Jim Unknown, who started for Palm Beach, pitched effectively for his team. Unknown, now 1-0, was the winner. In 7.1 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 8, walking 1, and allowing 2 earned runs. John Freemann was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 14 of 15 save opportunities.
Trailing 2-0, Palm Beach hopes soared in the top of the fourth inning when the 19-year old first baseman Yoshihiro Suzuki lifted a full count cutter into the stands for a 3-run home run. The round-tripper put the Bums up, 3-2.
"I don't feel you win baseball games by working harder than the other team or 'wanting it more,'" Unknown told the Palm Beach Herald. "You win just by scoring more runs."
The Bums sit in last place in the August Herrman League Phillie Phanatic Division with a record of 36-113.
