Eagles Continue Hot Streak with Extra-Inning Win
|
The Whitewater Eagles beat the Austin Hipsters, 5-4, in 11 innings. Whitewater second baseman Jonathan Cottle merited player of the game honors with his performance. He went 2 for 2 with a home run and a walk. Whitewater reliever Yasukatsu Yonemura was credited with the win, to go to 3-2. Nathan Diprose took the loss for Austin. Austin is in the throes of a 10-game losing streak.
Joe Donahue found himself in a pressure situation in the bottom of the 11th. Facing Austin hurler Nathan Diprose, the 21-year-old center fielder drew a walk, driving in 1 run. His 16th walk of the season put the Eagles on top, 5-4.
"It was a test of wills," said Michel Hérault, the Whitewater skipper. "I'm glad we came out of it with a win."
