Tornadoes Pull Back to .500 With Win Over Mustangs
|
The Kansas City Tornadoes overcame a good performance by Mile High center fielder Eddy Jacobse to knock off Mile High, 8-7, at McNichols Stadium. Jacobse went 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3. Ramón Vázquez was the winner. Over 7 innings, he allowed 7 runs on 10 hits, with 1 walk and 4 strikeouts. Michael Burton sewed up the save, his 15th.
The Tornadoes beat the Mustangs in part due to timely hitting. Case in point: the two-out double Todd McCarthy produced in the top of the first. Batting against Mile High pitcher Max Grant, McCarthy gave his team a 2-0 lead when he hit a 2-run double.
"We had the game right there for the taking," said Mile High manager Dave Harris. "But we decided not to take it."
Kansas City, at 23-23, sits in 5th place in the Thurman Munson League Sparky Anderson Division.
