The Dancin' Outlaws took Houston pitcher Maurice Hesmondhalgh's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Woodland Park. The final score was 3-1, West Virginia. Hesmondhalgh went 5.1 innings and allowed 1 earned run, striking out 7. Reliever Sean Irish picked up the win. His record improves to 1-0. Fernando Martínez took the loss. West Virginia is now 53-41, Houston 49-47.

West Virginia took a 2-1 lead on Luca Smithin's 5th hit of the season. The run-scoring single, which Smithin hit in the top of the seventh, left Houston pitcher Yu-xing Law visibly frustrated.

"I tell our guys all the time, 'Every pitch is the right pitch if you put it in the right place, you believe in it and have conviction,'" West Virginia manager Andy Franklin said.
