Road Warriors Come Back Late, Nip Princes
|
The Bel Air Princes got a superb performance from pitcher Orlando Núñez. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Westside. The Road Warriors won the game, 5-4. In spite of the loss, Núñez was named the player of the game. He threw 6 innings of 4-hit ball. Joe Mason, credited with the win, is now 8-1. He allowed 1 run on 3 hits in 3.1 innings. Nicholas Winslow recorded his 7th save for Westside.
Denny Funk was 2 for 2 with a double and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once for Westside. The 24-year old center fielder had a key at-bat in the top of the eighth. With one out and runners on 1st and 3rd, he broke a 4-4 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Vic Evans. It was his 33rd RBI of the season.
"This was a good win," said Funk.
The Road Warriors improved to a lofty 61-18.
