Capitals Clip Knights in Tight Contest
|
Sioux City got a terrific game from third baseman Fernando Díaz. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to Springfield, 7-5. Díaz was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He was 2 for 4 with 2 home runs and a walk, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 2. The win was credited to Sachi Kakuta in relief. His record improves to 3-1. Curt Woods took the loss. Takashi Toru picked up the save, his 21st.
Had Charlie Lammas not delivered a key base hit in the top of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Lammas hit a 2-run double. That made the score 4-2, in favor of the Capitals.
In postgame comments to the Springfield Today, Lammas said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
Springfield has an impressive 41-19 record.
