Derrek Anderson did all he could to help his team win. In the end, though, it wasn't enough to keep the New York Mafia from losing, 5-4, to the So Cal Republic at Don Corleone Park. Anderson belted 2 home runs. So Cal starter Rick Hill was credited with the win after throwing 111 pitches over 7.1 innings. His record now stands at 1-0. With their winning streak at 5, the Republic have raced to a strong start this season.

So Cal grabbed control in the top of the eighth. With two out and runners on 1st and 2nd, Lou Ramsey delivered a run-scoring single, to make it 5-4 in favor of the Republic.

"I was a little disappointed," said New York manager Roberto Campos. "We could've and should've scored more runs."
