Hipsters Beat Seals, 9-5
|
The Austin Hipsters picked up a win at Silvery Lane Field, knocking off the Beach City Seals, 9-5. Starting pitcher Mario Vargas played a key role in the triumph. Vargas, now 1-0, was the winner. In 6 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 2, walking 2, and allowing 2 earned runs. The save went to Koshiro Ohayashi, his 1st this season.
Jim Bungay had a big at-bat in the top of the third inning for the Hipsters. With his team down, 2-1, the third baseman hit a 2-run double, to put Austin ahead.
"The name of the game is scoring runs," Bungay said. "We did a pretty good job of that today."
Austin, now 2-1, has gotten their season off to a good start.
