Multi-HR Day for Dale as Spartans Overpower Cornhuskers, 9-5
|
The Sandy Springs Spartans beat the DeKalb Cornhuskers, 9-5, at The Coliseum. The win was largely due to the efforts of left fielder Marc Dale, who captured player of the game honors. He slugged 2 home runs, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 3. Sandy Springs reliever Javier Peña was credited with the win, to go to 7-1. Naozane Kato took the loss for DeKalb. DeKalb has now lost 4 in a row.
A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. In the bottom of the seventh, with the game tied, Graham Fabre was at the plate when Sandy Springs scored 1 on an error. The miscue enabled the Spartans to go in front, 6-5.
"We maximized our offense today," said Sandy Springs skipper Duncan Kelly. "That makes everyone's life easier."
