Big Day by Shanahan Ignites Spartans Win
|
The Sandy Springs Spartans beat the Spokane Bulldogs, 9-4, at The Kennel. The Spartans got a fine performance from right fielder Brad Shanahan, who captured player of the game honors. He went 3 for 3 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 2. Kyoji Kato, who went 6 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 4 runs on 6 hits, while walking 2 and striking out 3. His record now stands at 4-6. With the win, the Spartans improved to 50-58.
Dennis Ivey's at-bat in the top of the seventh was significant for the Spartans. Coming to the plate with the bases loaded and Sandy Springs leading 5-4, the pinch hitter hit a 2-run single.
