Ducks Trounce Wolverines, 12-3
|
The Long Island Ducks handed the Wichita Wolverines a sound defeat, 12-3, at Long Island Stadium. Sam Weld was a main contributor to the win. He went 2-4 with a double and a walk, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once for Long Island. The Ducks go to 46-50, putting them 6th in the Ford Frick League Billy the Marlin Division.
In the top of the seventh, Colm Maidens stood in the box, looking for a pitch to hammer. The Wolverines were trailing 12-3, but had the bases loaded. That's when Dave Conley made a terrific pitch and Maidens grounded out. Gone was the dream of a Wichita comeback.
