The Rock River Rats turned back the Boise Hawks, 5-4, at The Rat Hole. Harley Ware was named player of the game for his fine performance. He was 2-4 with a home run, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2. Rock River reliever Szeto Chieu picked up the win to move to 5-2. Ryunosuke Takahashi suffered the loss. Tom Wilson closed the game out for Rock River, earning his 2nd save.
The outcome might have been different had it not been for Ware. In the bottom of the seventh inning, when the Rats were trailing 4-3, Ware delivered a two-out 2-run home run for Rock River, giving his team the lead.
"I was a little disappointed," said Boise manager Bill Martin. "We could've and should've scored more runs."
The first-place Rats, at 57-33, now lead their division by 3½ games.
