Big Day by Rivera Sparks Ducks Win
|
The Long Island Ducks knocked off the Sandy Springs Spartans, 9-6, at Long Island Stadium. Enrique Rivera, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason Long Island won. The designated hitter was 4-4 with a home run, 3 singles, and a walk. He scored 3 times and drove in 2. Long Island, at 35-39, occupies 5th place in the Ford Frick League Billy the Marlin Division.
Rivera had no bigger at-bat than in the bottom of the third when the 23-year old center fielder hit a single. The single gave Long Island the lead, 1-0. It was his 53rd hit of the season.
"I don't feel you win baseball games by working harder than the other team or 'wanting it more,'" Rivera told the Long Island Gazette. "You win just by scoring more runs."
