|
Gamblers pinch hitter Bill Hawken put his stamp on his team's 9-6 win over the South Carolina Bombers. Hawken was 1-1 with a home run. He drove in 3 runs and scored once for Las Vegas in the contest. Fred Butler was the winning pitcher. Over 8 innings, he allowed 6 runs on 9 hits, with 1 walk and 2 strikeouts. Las Vegas occupies second place in the Roberto Clemente League Christian Latulippe Division at 20-17.
Had Hawken not come through in the top of the eighth, the outcome might have changed. Instead, with two down, Hawken hit a 3-run home run. The Gamblers never looked back after taking the 9-6 lead.
In comments to the Las Vegas Chronicle, Hawken admitted he's been told to improve his work habits. "But," he said, "I know when to take it to another gear."
