Big Game from Watanabe Not Enough, Beehive Lose
|
The Madison Beehive got a superb performance from third baseman Ryu Watanabe. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Sandy Springs. The Spartans won the game, 15-11. In spite of the loss, Watanabe was named the player of the game. He was 2-3 with 2 home runs and 2 walks. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice. Sandy Springs reliever Javier Peña picked up the win, upping his record to 2-1. Scott Morel shouldered the loss. Julián Salazar nailed down his 9th save.
Lemn Onkwani in the bottom of the first had a productive at-bat. With the bases loaded and the Spartans trailing 2-1, the Sandy Springs designated hitter hit a sacrifice fly.
"It's a long season," said Onkwani. "We'll keep working to improve."
Even with the win, the Spartans have a dismal 14-28 record.
