Cornhuskers Take Close Win Over Hawks
|
The rain made it unbearable at times; nonetheless, the faithful who endured the elements at Earl Campbell Stadium enjoyed themselves.
In a well-pitched game between the DeKalb Cornhuskers and the Boise Hawks, pitcher Andrew Thompson was superb. The DeKalb right-hander was named the player of the game in DeKalb's 1-0 win. Nate Chapman picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 1-0. Ryunosuke Takahashi was tagged with the loss. Kevin Spurr got credit for the save for DeKalb. It was his 1st of the year.
DeKalb took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the eighth inning. With two out, pinch hitter Teruo Hashimoto hit a solo home run that set the crowd abuzz.
"I like what I saw today," said DeKalb manager Shusaku Fukuda, "and I can't wait to get back out there and do it again."
DeKalb is now riding a 3-game win streak.
