Spartans Nip Storm Troopers, 5-4
|
The Sandy Springs Spartans turned back the San Antonio Storm Troopers, 5-4, at The Coliseum. Yeong-il Kim was named player of the game for his fine performance. He went 3-3 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Reliever Harmon Anstey picked up the win. His record improves to 1-1. Yoshida Kaneko took the loss. Julián Salazar picked up the save for Sandy Springs, his 5th of the year.
Late in the game, third baseman Tony Delsol had a big at-bat for Sandy Springs. In the bottom of the eighth, he hit a run-scoring single off Yoshida Kaneko. The play gave the Spartans a 5-4 lead.
"I'm proud of the boys for pulling through," said Sandy Springs Spartans manager Duncan Kelly. "The wins don't come easy for this team, but everyone's got an extra jump in their step after a game like this."
The Spartans have stumbled out of the gate, getting only their 8th win in 26 games.
