Getting a good performance from first baseman Hal Farmer, the Wichita Wolverines defeated the Phoenix Lights, 7-5. Farmer was 2-4 with a home run. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3 for the Wolverines. Dennis Gregory got the win, improving to 1-0. He pitched 7 innings, giving up 8 hits and 5 runs, while striking out 7 and walking 0. The save was credited to Freek Janszen, his 2nd.
Farmer had a big at-bat with one out in the bottom of the fifth inning. With his team down, 5-3, the first baseman hit a 3-run home run to put Wichita ahead.
