Sioux Falls and Newark took Mother Nature's best shot and still managed to complete their ballgame.
The Sioux Falls Trojans defeated the Newark Jail Birds, 9-4, in Alexander Cartwright League action at Cobras Ballpark, with Sioux Falls first baseman Nick Whitbread named player of the game. The winner was Sioux Falls reliever Enrique Castillo, now 4-2. The loser was Lou Bates.
An impactful at-bat came in the top of the seventh inning. With runners on 1st and 2nd, the batter, Goris van Ekeren, hit a run-scoring single. It made the score 5-4, Sioux Falls, and helped them go on to win.
"I like our mindset right now," said Sioux Falls manager Barry Miller.
The third-place Trojans now have a 4-game winning streak.
