Beavers Suffer 5-3 Setback
|
The Hornets faced a stiff challenge from Portland pitcher Clayton O'Neil, but persevered to claim a win at The Nest. The final score was 5-3. O'Neil went 7 innings and allowed 3 earned runs. The save was credited to Andrés Nevárez, his 8th. Eureka's record now stands at 16-19, placing them 6th in the Thurman Munson League Sparky Anderson Division.
Eureka slugger José Ibarra had a big at-bat with one out in the bottom of the seventh. With runners on 2nd and 3rd, he connected on a cutter from Clayton O'Neil for a 3-run home run. His 10th home run of the season put Eureka in front, 4-3.
"It takes a lot of things to win a ballgame," said Eureka manager Stephen Jackson. "It's usually not just one thing."
