Loss to Jail Birds Extends West Coast Losing Streak
|
The Newark Jail Birds got a magnificent performance from pitcher Lonnie Young, who stifled the West Coast offense en route to a 3-1 Jail Birds win at Cobras Ballpark. In 5.1 innings, Young surrendered 5 hits, while striking out 5 and walking 3. He allowed 1 run. The losses continue to mount for West Coast, which has now dropped 7 in a row.
Tony Pennington helped the Newark cause in the bottom of the second. With runners on 1st and 2nd and Newark trailing 1-0, he put the hurt on a cutter from William Kramer, launching it over the fence for a 3-run homer. The blast put the Jail Birds in front, 3-1.
"Winning is the only thing that really matters," Pennington told the Newark Chronicle. "If you can win without even breaking a sweat, more power to you."
