San Diego first baseman Kyle Reader was sensational. He was 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 2 times and drove in 2, but it wasn't enough to rally his team to a win. Dallas beat the Hops, 7-6. Reader was named the player of the game despite the loss. The winner was Paul Johnston, who threw 112 pitches over 7 innings. The right-hander was charged with 5 runs on 9 hits. The Hops fall to 10-20 and continue their uneasy start to the 2028 season.

Had Toby Chave not delivered a key base hit in the top of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Chave hit a 3-run home run. That made the score 7-4, in favor of the Texans.

"We'll try to build on that win," Chave told the Dallas Daily News.
