António Méndez pitched well enough to win, but it was not to be. The Frisco Rams, despite Méndez's fine outing, dropped a 2-1 decision to the West Coast Defenders at North Shore Park. West Coast reliever Jit wei Lopan picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. António Méndez absorbed the loss. George Fortin picked up the save, his 8th.
The West Coast win was a team effort. It included major contributions from, among others, Jonathan King. In the bottom of the seventh, the West Coast designated hitter came to bat and hit a run-scoring single. It staked his team to a 2-1 lead.
"You come to the ballpark to do your job and that's what I did today," King told the West Coast Chronicle.
With the win, West Coast pushes its record to 17-15.
