Raines hits 1st home run to Pull Codebreakers to .500
|
With designated hitter Tim Raines leading the charge, the Columbus Codebreakers defeated the Brooklyn Black Knights, 8-5, at Blue Ivy Stadium. Raines, who won the Rookie of the Year Award in 2014, went 2 for 3 with a home run and 3 walks, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2. Columbus reliever Marcos León picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Tokaji Goto shouldered the loss. Earning his 1st save of the year was Manny Palma.
A key moment came with one out in the top of the ninth. That's when Codebreakers pinch hitter Desmond Waters hit a sinker from Tokaji Goto for a run-scoring double, putting Columbus up, 6-5.
"We were able to get some things going offensively," said Raines.
The loss drops Brooklyn to 2-2.
